WELCOME TO BRANKSOME HALL

As Toronto's only all-years independent International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for girls, we offer Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 with Boarding starting in Grade 7 and more than $1.4 million in financial assistance for qualifying students.

Our curriculum is globally focused. Our faculty, international. And our technology and facilities, state-of-the-art. We believe that intellectual curiosity and advanced problem-solving are key to thriving in a complex, changing world. From our campus in downtown Toronto, and our sister school in South Korea, our students go on to be welcomed at the world’s most prestigious universities, most with scholarships.

Every day, the students of Branksome Hall are challenged to reach higher, to develop personally and to become leaders.

WHAT SETS BRANKSOME HALL APART

LEADERS IN INNOVATION, STEM & THE ARTS

At Branksome, a culture of innovation runs deep. Our students are empowered to bring their ideas to life, to solve complex problems and take risks. Our educators engage in data-driven research to prototype new ideas and support student entrepreneurship through our revolutionary accelerator program. Our entire community comes together to move girls’ education forward by realizing projects like our new, first-of-its-kind Innovation Centre and Studio Theatre (iCAST) facility slated for completion in 2025.

TIGHT-KNIT COMMUNITY, GLOBAL OPPORTUNITY

To be inspired to make a difference, we need to be engaged with the world around us — to be exposed to diverse perspectives and experiences. Branksome fosters a culture of international mindedness and connection through our never-ending pursuit of new opportunities for students to collaborate with scholars, industry leaders, artists, entrepreneurs and community leaders, both in Canada and internationally.

A COMMITMENT TO WELL-BEING

Our diverse array of co-curricular and well-being offerings present your daughter with outlets for creativity and activity. Whether she joins our championship-winning Debating or Rowing teams, enjoys after-school yoga classes, swimming, film or improv club, creates a charity to provide for local families in need, starts a robotics team with her friends, or heads up Model UN — she’s following her passions and evolving interests alongside her academics.

THE IB ADVANTAGE

Every student at Branksome Hall, from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, is an IB learner who develops thinking, research, communication, social and self-management skills. In addition, all of our students participate in the IB’s Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) opportunities. CAS enables our students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development by learning through experience and collaboration. Our IB programs promote curiosity and critical thinking, provide assessments and feedback against standardized criteria, and have been shown to improve students’ performance and provide unmatched preparation for university studies. Branksome Hall students graduate with both the IB Diploma and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

Nearly 5,000 schools in more than 150 countries are IB World Schools — recognized widely as the gold standard in education.

IB – PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

I love robotics – one of my favourite things I did in school was create a model of the brain with Minecraft. I learned how the hippocampus retrieves and stores memories.

From Junior Kindergarten through Grade 6, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) invites our students to ask questions, collaborate to learn new skills and have fun. In our inclusive classrooms, with the guidance of supportive teachers, our students are encouraged to cultivate their social-emotional skills, fostering their growth as compassionate and principled global citizens.

The curriculum is developed and revised based on the latest research related to brain development and how children learn, and the pedagogy is embedded in best practices for teaching young children, following an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary, holistic approach.

IB – DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

In Grades 11 and 12, independence and critical-thinking skills are a primary focus to ensure each student’s readiness for post-secondary studies and beyond.

Students plan their own liberal-arts program, choosing from a range of courses in Languages, Humanities, Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts. School and University Counsellors partner with Learning Strategies teachers to provide personalized support every step of the way.

All students’ work is marked externally against established, standardized criteria. It’s one reason Branksome Hall graduates are so highly sought-after by the world’s leading universities. And it’s why they often receive university credit for their IB accomplishments.

One of the achievements I’ve had at Branksome was competing in the World Affairs Conference SPRINT entrepreneurial challenge. My team worked to develop a company that would integrate regenerative farming practices into the TDSB curriculum to mitigate food insecurity and promote education on feasible climate solutions.

- MANI WILLIAMS, Grade 12

IB – MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Designed for students in Grades 7 to 10, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) engages students in a liberal arts curriculum that provides a solid platform for future studies in all disciplines.

The program also teaches students the essential skills for learning how to learn, as well as their own unique learning strengths and areas for growth.

The MYP challenges students to think critically, research deeply and develop globally minded perspectives on a broad range of issues.

The MYP focuses on the development of the whole girl, and it includes learning in Arts, Athletics, and developing skills and interests. MYP students also learn to take on leadership roles and community service activities.

For my Primary Years Programme exhibition project my group explored the responsible use of technology. We did some really interesting research, thinking and design all about robotics and drones, it was a lot of fun!

- CHARLOTTE, Grade 8

WHAT BRANKSOME PARENTS HAVE TO SAY

It's impressive how much your child grows at Branksome and how much they receive in terms of education and opportunities for expression, even at the very youngest of ages.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We wish to acknowledge this land on which Branksome operates. For thousands of years, it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and go to school on this land.

Setting the new standard for girls' education everywhere takes collective action. From all of us.
